What authors can expect after sending their work to Dorrance Publishing
Completing a manuscript is an important accomplishment. Whether you have written a novel, memoir, children’s book, collection of poetry, or nonfiction work, submitting it for review is the next step toward exploring your publishing options.
If your manuscript is ready, the Dorrance Publishing team makes the submission process simple. Here is what you can expect.
Step 1: Submit Your Manuscript
If you have already been in contact with Dorrance Publishing, check your Welcome Email with the subject line “Thank you for your interest in Dorrance Publishing.”
The email contains a Manuscript Uploader link that allows you to submit your work online. You can also reply directly to the email and attach your manuscript.
Dorrance accepts manuscripts in several formats, including PDF files, Microsoft Word documents, image files, and handwritten manuscripts.
Before submitting, make sure your pages are complete, organized, and easy to read. Including your name and contact information can also help the team properly identify your work.
What If You Only Have a Printed Copy
Not every author has a digital version of their manuscript. If your work is only available as a printed or handwritten copy, you can mail it to:
Dorrance Publishing
585 Alpha Drive, Suite 103
Pittsburgh, PA 15238
You must keep a copy of your manuscript for your personal records before mailing the original. Dorrance is not responsible for lost manuscripts. You may also want to use a shipping method that provides tracking information.
Step 2: Your Manuscript Is Reviewed
Once Dorrance receives your manuscript, the team will read through it. This review helps the team understand your book, its current stage, and the publishing services that may be appropriate for your project.
The initial review process typically takes one to three days. The length of your manuscript, its format, and other factors may affect the exact timing.
You do not need to worry about having every detail figured out before submitting. Your manuscript does not have to be perfectly formatted or professionally designed. The purpose of this stage is to allow the team to learn more about your work and determine the next appropriate steps.
Step 3: Discuss What Comes Next
After the review, a Dorrance representative will contact you to discuss your manuscript. This conversation gives you an opportunity to ask questions, explain your publishing goals, and learn more about the available options.
Depending on your manuscript and the publishing plan you select, the process may include services such as mechanical editing, interior page design, custom cover design, printing, distribution, and book promotion.
Every book is different, so the recommended path will depend on your work, your goals, and the services you choose.
Before You Submit
Take a few minutes to review your manuscript before sending it. Make sure the pages are in the correct order and that your file opens properly. If your book includes illustrations, photographs, or other materials, include them with your submission or let your representative know that they will be provided separately.
You should also be prepared to share basic information about your book, including its title, subject, intended audience, and why you decided to write it.
Take the Next Step With Your Book
Submitting your manuscript may feel like a big step, but it is also an opportunity to learn what could come next for your work.
If your manuscript is ready, review your Dorrance Welcome Email and use the Manuscript Uploader link to send it to the team. Once it is received and reviewed, a representative will contact you to discuss the next steps in your publishing journey.
