The only way to make your writing dreams a reality is to write them to fruition. As Louie L’Amour said, the water does not flow until the faucet is turned on. When it comes to writing, “turning on the faucet” is a matter of writing each day, in some capacity, to refine your craft and hone your skills.

“Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere.” – Albert Einstein

As authors, we have the wonderful opportunity to tap into a childlike mindset and let our imaginations take us to places our adult selves never knew possible. Writing is meant to be a fun experience; if you hold yourself to a rigid style or approach, you’ll be more apt to give up. Keep your imagination at the forefront of your efforts and the rest will follow suit.

“You fail only if you stop writing.” – Ray Bradbury

Ray Bradbury said it best with this one. In the past, we’ve talked about the importance of never giving up and pushing through writer’s block in order to reach your writing dreams. It’s only when you stop writing that you’re truly destined to fail, because you’ve given up on what you set out to accomplish. No matter how slow you may write or how long it takes you to finish a chapter, the important thing is that you’re still pushing yourself to attain your dreams.

“There are seven days in a week … and someday isn’t one of them.” – Unknown

We all have a little procrastinator that lives within us. It’s the person who wants to push us off of our productive path. The procrastinator will tell us that there’s a better time to write, or that you can always write later. However, it’s up to you to keep the procrastinator at bay, push through the temptation and stay committed to the journey. Rather than saying that “someday” you’ll start to write your book, how about you say instead, “Today is the day that I’ll start my book.”

“To begin is easy, to persist is art.” – German Proverb

Finally, as almost a culmination of the previous quotes, is this German proverb, “To begin is easy, to persist is art.” We are tempted to stop at some point; however, we owe it to ourselves to push forward and keep our eyes on the prize. For some, beginning is easy, for others it’s hard. But to keep working toward your dream no matter the distraction is an art, and you are the artist.
